“If I am not for myself, then who will be for me? And if I am only for myself, then what am I? And if not now, when?” --Rabbi Hillel
I don't regularly quote Rabbi Hillel and I don't plan to make this a regular happening. I do, however, love the last part of this quote. The first parts have great human value but it's the ending that intrigues me".
"And if not now, when?" People always seem to have a time carved out when they plan to really go after it all. In business, this usually means "well, after I make this big sale, then I'll have the money and kick ass". Or perhaps it's a case of "I have three days off next week, I am really going to get after it". Or my favorite "It has been a tough time, but I really plan to make this work". I love that last one because it comes with extra passion and a very nebulous plan.
The time is now! Meet with that expert to help you brand your product (Ask me about Annie Ovans), make that Summer-long game plan, plot out the 12 month plan, the 5 year goals, make the flyers or brochures, set up with the meeting with that person you need to brain-pick, approach that person you want as an investor, make that investment that you have vested as worthy of your hard earned money, do that newspaper drop, send out those mailings, meet with a "coach", take an online seminar, go to a relevant conference. Do it now. You won't do it later.
"And if not now, when?" is a rhetorical question from Rabbi Hillel (I asked him in a previous life). It is his way to say that if you don't do it now or at least absolutely commit to it now, it won't get done.
Will you be better off business-wise tomorrow at this time than you are today? What can you do NOW to make sure you are?
