Being a tailor means blending two of life essential elements...science and art. Science is something that has a right and a wrong way. A correct and an incorrect answer. Art is open to interpretation and opinion. Provability is the key to science and beauty is in the eye of the beholder when it comes to an art.
A tailor must be both a scientist and an artist. An article of clothing has to be sewed the proper way. The stitching can't just be done on a whim. The same holds true with repairs. When an article of clothing is ripped at the seams or needs to be lengthened/shortened, it has to be done a certain way. There is also plenty of room for artistry. My Grandpa Jack used to make suits and sport coats by hand. He also would adjust each new suit to fit the customer perfectly. There were decisions that needed to be made and the eye of a master tailor needs artistry. Someone who simply can do the scientific parts of tailoring is not a master tailor. They are a technician. A tailor can see something in an article of clothing that others can not.
